Lunar Gymnastics Club (registered charity SC047478) kicked off the year with huge success in two competitions in different disciplines.


The Acrobatic (acro) team headed to Linlithgow to compete, and acro partnership, Eve Hamilton (Lanark) and Niamh Donellen (Blackwood) came home with Bronze for Grade 1. Another acro pair, Madison Watson (Biggar) and Lara Gourlay (Lanark) brought home silver for Grade 4 and to top off the competition, acro group, Georgia Paul (Lesmahagow), Freya Trevena (Braidwood) and Keira Smillie (Braidwood) came home with Gold for their fantastic routine for Grade 3. Congratulations to Esther McCurry (Strathaven), Kailey Jenkins (Abington) and Charlotte Harding (Lanark) for achieving 4th Place and Kailey and Zara Trevena (Braidwood) 6th place. A fantastic achievement for the start of the year!


That’s not all! Lunar had more medal success on Sunday at the Club League 1 Tumble competition which was hosted at the club’s gym in Lesmahagow. A fantastic competition with lots of visiting teams, Lunar gymnasts walked away with 9 Medals, Gold Medallists, Lily Chalmers (Lanark), Lauren Hughes (Carluke) and our male competitor Joshua Gartshore (Lanark). Silver Medallists, sisters Neve and Beth Canning (Lesmahagow), Charlotte Harding (Lanark), Abbi Gilmour (Larkhall) and Emily Miller (Blackwood) and our youngest competitor of the day at only 6 years old, Hannah Hughes (Carluke) won bronze. A special mention to Summer Gibson (Carstairs), Olivia Petto (Lanark) Beth Baillie (Carnwath) and Charlotte Christie (Pettnain) on a fantastic effort in a tough competition!


The club have a very busy March ahead beginning with an indoor car boot sale, this Sunday 3rd March 9am – 1pm in their gym, open to the public; tables are still available.


The club will then be hosting world class Danish Gymnasts, The National Danish Performance Team who are currently on their world tour, when they visit South Lanarkshire for a week. Friday 15th March they will be spending the day at Lunar Gymnastics Club hosting sessions for primary and secondary schools in the Lesmahagow, Blackwood, Stonehouse and Strathaven areas.


14 of the club’s NDP tumblers will be competing at the British Qualifiers on the 17th of March at Bell’s Sport Centre in Perth ahead of the clubs 7th Annual Festival, Gymtastic on the 23-24th of March, which will be taking place in the club’s own gym this year.


Gymtastic will play host to 600 performers and 500 spectators each session. This truly will be a fantastic weekend of gymnastics with teams coming from all over the UK including the Spartans who were on Britain’s Got Talent to Mickleover who travel up to our festival each year from Derby. Lunar Gymnastics Club’s two fantastic display teams, acro and general gymnasts will be performing and teaming up with Hamilton acro for a one-off performance! The club has classes for all ages from pre-school upwards and in many different disciplines from Trampoline, General, Gym for all, competitive Acrobatics, Tumble, Display and newly introduced to the club Women’s Artistic.
